NASA will test a new scented toilet on the space station, valued at $23 million

NASA recently announced that astronauts will test a new type of "scented toilet" worth $23 million on the International Space Station. If all goes well, this toilet will be used for future missions to return to the moon and land on Mars.

According to reports, this toilet was originally scheduled to be launched by Antares rockets from Wallers Island, Virginia on the morning of October 2,https://www.shineful.com.tw/ma54.htm, but just minutes before the launch, Northrop Grumman’s " The "Cygnus" cargo spacecraft encountered technical problems and the launch was temporarily stopped.

A new space "scented toilet" developed by NASA.

According to reports, this toilet is a zero-gravity toilet designed with the "Universal Waste Management System" (UWMS), which is more adapted to the physiological anatomy of women than the current space toilet. A major feature of the toilet is that it uses a funnel system for urination, and the seat has a small ridge that can help astronauts to better fix their sitting posture in space.

According to the toilet development team, this toilet has a smaller mass and volume than the previous system, is easy to use, has a high degree of comfort, and can handle the smell of urine.

The development team stated that the toilet "collects and filters odors with odor bacteria filters", and the team hopes that the toilet can emit "the sweetest air".

It is reported that odor control is a big problem facing the spacecraft. Moreover, due to the different physiological structures of men and women, the use of mixed occupants in space has always been a limitation of the space station system design. The development team said that in order to be more suitable for female astronauts, the newly designed toilet seat moves forward from the central position.
